The International Services Council of Alabama has been in existence in Huntsville since 1965, helping international military trainees at Redstone Arsenal feel at home, coordinating multi-cultural events in the Huntsville area, providing information about immigration and naturalization services to area residents, and hosting international visitors traveling to Alabama under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program [IVLP ]
The IVLP has been ISC's primary focus for the last few years. Recently ISC created two new programs:
(1) with the UAHuntsville Office of International Programs, ISC created a speaker series entitled the "Global Perspectives Institute," which focuses on international issues;
(2) working with the Academy for Science and Foreign Languages, ISC has launched a school outreach program to introduce children to the global community through email as they study foreign languages.
The Global Perspectives Institute featured Congressman Robert Aderholt on the “Importance of International Relations in a Global Society”
Funded by the City of Huntsville, Madison County, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Jane K. Lowe Foundation, the International Services Council is affiliated with the US Department of State through the National Council for International Visitors.
