What a pleasure and honor it is to serve as the 2011-2012 Board of Directors President for the International Services Council of Alabama.
I have a passion for service and building relationships/partnerships with others and that's what Citizen Diplomacy is all about. These passions match up directly with the foundational core values of ISC of Alabama:
- Respect
- Lifelong Learning
- Multicultural Diversity
- Collaboration
- Globalization
Our state is rich in diversity and we have so many things to be proud of and to show to our International Visitors. I take pride in our partnership with the U.S. State Department and the confidence they place in us to establish and nurture relations with our International Visitors as we strive to enrich each other's lives with every visit.
I invite you to join me in the "call to action" to live out the ISC Mission Statement that was created 46 years ago:
"...to establish and nurture international contacts with visitors and residents from around the world to enrich Alabama's education, commerce and global awareness."
Embrace each opportunity you have to learn from others; celebrating our wonderful differences and appreciating our similarities.
Thank you to Jacqui Shipe for her visionary leadership and to the ISC Staff for your continuous dedication to our global mission! I appreciate the ISC Board of Directors – we are truly a working board. And, we couldn't accomplish great things and make new friends without our wonderful Diplomatic Corp. members. Thank you for sharing your hearts with our guests! I echo the words of Chester Bowles, U.S. Ambassador to India in the early 1960's:
"...you are a vital link in the international relations of the United States."
I look forward to serving you this year – one handshake at a time!
Rena Anderson, President
Board of Directors of the International Services Council of Alabama
