Tell Your FaceBook Friends About ISCAlabama.org

Citizen Diplomacy requires persons with a wide variety of skills and talents that can be used in improving international relations by focusing on the local level. Members of ISC Alabama’s Diplomatic Corps are outstanding examples of the types of individuals who can make an important difference in the global community by opening their doors to those who come to teach and those who come to learn. Board Members play a vital role in determining the strategy and program direction of ISC, as well as garnering and contributing financial support for ISC’s many activities. Advisory Council Members, as the name implies, offer advice and support to ISC by sharing their experience and expertise in the field of international relations with visitors and local participants in ISC programs. Diplomats serve as the front line of face-to-face interaction with foreign visitors, performing a wide range of important roles, such as greeting visitors at the airport, or hosting a dinner in their homes, or providing personalized tours of Alabama sites of interest. ISC Alabama could not exist without the active and caring participation of its Diplomatic Corps. If you would like to join us in these activities, please Contact Us.

Some of the activities and services provided by our Diplomatic Corps Volunteers include:

  • Greeting international visitors at the airport, giving them a warm Alabama welcome as they begin their visit to Alabama.
  • Hosting international dignitaries for dinner in private homes, giving those dignitaries an opportunity to interact on a truly personal basis with local citizens.
  • Accompanying international visitors to their meetings as an ISC Local Guide.
  • Providing a local tour of various Alabama sites of interest.
  • Meeting with visiting international professionals to share professional expertise and experience.
  • Taking international visitors shopping, with special trips to shops that are unique to Alabama.
  • Assisting in the ISC office or with various ISC events and activities.

The volunteers who offer their time and talents are a very special group of individuals; as representatives of ISC, the U.S. Department of State, and the State of Alabama they must demonstrate cultural sensitivity, excellent communication skills, professional appearance, and interest in international cultures.

We welcome those who feel they meet the demanding criteria for a Diplomatic Corps Volunteer.  If you are interested in joining this special group, please Contact Us.
